Doxycycline

Doxycycline is a tetracycline antibiotic that has been specially designed for you to be able to battle any infections caused by the presence of bacteria in the body. The following infections can be treated: gum disease, urinary tract infection, chlamydia, acne, etc. Make sure you take the entire amount of this medicine prescribed, as otherwise a relapse of infection is possible. You may feel a lot better after taking this drug for several days, but this is not going to mean the infection has been completely treated. This drug is FDA pregnancy category D. This category is used for medications that can do harm to an unborn baby and cause a number of health conditions that could be avoided. Since doxycycline has been reported to decrease the efficiency of birth control pills, you will need to make sure you are also using some additional non-hormonal method of birth control. You need to be aware of the possibility to get some serious side effects when taking doxycycline, although such cases are quite rare. The following serious side effects are sometimes reported: fast heart rate, yellowed skin, dark colored urine, unusual weakness, chills, dizziness, severe headache, nausea and vomiting, flu symptoms, body aches, severe blistering, confusion, loss of appetite, blurred vision, and some other ones that can be individual. If you get any other symptoms that seem serious enough to be reported – please tell your health care provider about them. Less serious side effects are more likely and quite possible. The following are considered to be mild side effects that do not have to be reported to your health care provider, as they are most likely to go away on their own: diarrhea, trouble swallowing, vomiting, stomach upset, vaginal itching, sores inside your mouth, and mild nausea. You are never supposed to share your dose of doxycycline with other people to whom it was not prescribed, as every time any person willing to take doxycycline is supposed to be examined. This is necessary to make sure taking this drug is going to be safe for them and there will be no serious side effects experienced. If you accidentally happened to take too much of doxycycline, make sure you report this fact to your health care provider as soon as possible. An overdose of doxycycline is not life-threatening, but its symptoms (nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea) need to be treated to prevent them from getting worse.
